The Osun State government has charged tax experts especially Women in Taxation to be more committed to revenue duties in order to serve as mentors and role models, tax ambassadors to upcoming ones.

The event with the theme: Evaluating the Role of Swit in the Tax System which preaches love, rededication, unwind and reboot of members for revenue improvement was held at OIRS Conference hall, Abere.

Representing the state governor at the retreat was the acting Chairman, Osun Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Solanke Hamzat, revealed the importance of women in the workforce as he uses OIRS agency as a sample where 90 percent of its directorship were women with good representation.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the modest roles of women in taxation as revenue ambassadors of the government to the public, therefore imploring them to continue been the supportive system and change the revenue world needs.

Reacting to the ongoing harmonized demand notice in the state, the OIRS boss explained that the bill introduced is to make payment easy, convenient for taxpayers. Also affirmed that, the bill which curates all levies into a single bill does not include other service based charges and levies as well as personal income tax.

In her own remarks, the Coordinator, Society of Women In Taxation (SWIT), Osun State chapter, Mrs Oluwafunmilayo Aboderin appreciated the efforts of every members of SWIT for their show of love, commitment and dedication to make the day realisable.

In her words, The SWIT Coordinator of Kwara State, Mrs Oluwakemi Obakemi (FCTI) charges women in taxation to use their ability and strength as tax experts to widen the tax net in order to boost the state revenue. Also charged them to focus more on the informal sector unit

The resource person, Mrs Obakemi who was represented at the event by Hajia Aishat Shittu called for potential strategy to catch all market men and women in the informal sector unit into the state tax net, noting that such action will not only blocked revenue leakages but also boost the state IGR.

Another resource person who spoke vividly on women’s health disposition, Dr. (Mrs) Opeyemi Afolabi dedicated her pleads to women in taxation, Osun State chapter to always take proper care of their health in the course of duty.

Dr. Afolabi emphasised that it is paramount for all women tax experts, due to the tedious nature of their works to always do a routine medical check up particularly, effect of menopause and create time to attend to changes observed medically in order to avoid any surprises of any kind.

Giving her closing remarks, Immediate Past Coordinator, Mrs Mary Olaleye (FCTI) thanked everyone present for sharing in the euphoria of the get together, admonishing all members to continue supporting the SWIT course for the purpose of serving the government and people better in regards to revenue generation.

Part of the event was sharing of gifts among members as a sign of love.

The occasion was graced by members of Chartered Institute of Taxation, Osun chapter and other members of SWIT from other parts of the country.
