The Osun State Internal Revenue Service (OIRS) has revealed that January 31, 2025 remains the deadline for filing the annual tax returns by employers of labour.

This revelation was made known by the acting Chairman, Osun Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Solanke Hamzat during a live radio program christened, “Alaye Lori Owo Ori”. He said filing of annual tax returns is being backed by law which make it mandatory for all employers of labour to respond to accordingly.

While on the half an hour programme, the acting Executive Chairman, who spoke through the Assistant Director (Income Tax), Pay As You Earn, in the Agency, Mrs Adeola Okeyode reveals the importance of filing tax returns on time as a way of giving explicit summary of the year remittances.

Alhaji Hamzat reiterated that, according to the Personal Income Tax Act Cap. 81 LFN 2004, all businesses and employers of labour, residents within Osun State, must file their annual income tax returns on or before January 31, 2025.

“Every employer shall be required to file a return, with the relevant tax authority of all emoluments paid to its employees, not later than 31st January of every year, in respect of all employees in its employment in the preceding year”, the OIRS boss emphasized.

He further alerted that failure to comply with the directive would attract penalties of #500,000 in the case of a corporate body and #50,000 in the case of individuals, as stipulated in section 81 of PITA.
