In alignment with its mandate to manage revenue for the Osun State Government, Hon. Solanke Hamzat, the Acting Chairman of the Osun Internal Revenue Service (OIRS), has urged stakeholders in the hospitality industry to support the ambitious initiatives of the State Government under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke.
Hamzat emphasized the importance of these stakeholders registering with the OIRS as Tax Collection Agents in the state. He made this appeal while appearing on the radio program ‘Alaye Lori Owo Ori,’ represented by Mrs. Mary Aboderin.
The OIRS Chairman explained that Consumption Tax is applicable to consumed items and services, emphasizing that it is the duty of all law-abiding citizens to ensure its payment. His message underscored that Consumption Tax is not just a responsibility in Osun State but is applicable throughout Nigeria.
According to Hon. Hamzat, Section 76 of the Osun State Revenue Law mandates Owners, Managers, and Controllers of Hotels, Restaurants, and Event Centers to register as Collection Agents, and they are required to provide evidence of this registration. Furthermore, he pointed out that Section 75 of the same law obligates these establishments to charge and collect the tax on behalf of the State Government for subsequent remittance.
Hon. Hamzat reiterated the significance of taxes as a vital component of internally generated revenue, crucial for sustaining the remarkable multi-dimensional developments in Osun State since Senator Ademola Adeleke assumed leadership.
He encouraged both indigenes and residents of Osun State to pay their taxes regularly, positioning themselves as responsible citizens. This commitment will enable the State Government to deliver further dividends of democracy for the benefit of the people of Osun State.
